From VC to PE – Perspectives on Today’s Funding Environment

Please join us for our next Digital Irish event at Bank of Ireland NYC Hub, on Tuesday March 7th from 6:30pm, where we’ll host investors Andrew Steele and Ronan Cunningham.

We’ll also feature a quick startup pitch from Legitimate Co-Founder and COO, Caoimhe Donnelly.

About The Panel

Ronan Cunningham is a Partner with Spectrum Equity, a growth equity investment firm. He has over 20 years of experience in the private equity industry, having previously worked at General Atlantic and served as Head of Private Equity for the Irish National Pensions Reserve Fund.

He holds an MBA from INSEAD and a Bachelor of Commerce from University College Dublin.

Andrew Steele grew up in Northern Ireland on either side of the Good Friday Agreement in a family that lived in the thick of it, but cherished travel and embraced diversity of opinion. He first visited the U.S. to attend a summer camp in Vermont, and later moved full-time to attend Harvard University, where he studied behavioral economics.

Andrew co-founded an ed-tech platform in 2014 after seeing a gap in the market and ran the company for two and a half years before joining Activant in its first fund.

As an early team member, Andrew has been part of scaling Activant alongside its portfolio companies and established the firm’s fintech focus.

About Pitching Company

Legitimate is a brand new platform specifically designed for journalists. Their tools are free for journalists to use. Here’s their pitch:

We centralise all their work, processes, tools, and files into one platform, helping them:
    • Save valuable time by having everything they need to write their stories in one place.
    • Easily create their stories using our free tools, including transcription, article analytics, a workflow manager  and much more.
    • Access a full suite of tools that are fully encrypted and designed with journalists in mind.

Local news and its impact on democracy are very important to us. We promote local news sources and provide smaller publishers with the tools they need to run their newsrooms, as well as bringing more traffic to their sites.

We also offer a content hub where every author is verified, ensuring no bots, hackers or trolls. Users can have confidence that every piece of content is from a real person. We display author details, adding to media literacy and allowing people to make more informed decisions on what they choose to read. All of the content is read at the original source, meaning that we drive readers to publications and news sites.
