In a landmark initiative, a consortium of prominent Irish organizations and advocates based in New York are launching an ambitious project aimed at supporting Irish Work & Travel Visa program participants holding the J1 Graduate Visa. This collaborative effort seeks to ease the transition for these Irish graduate students into the American workforce, providing an invaluable bridge between their academic achievements and professional aspirations in the United States.
Bridging Opportunities for Irish Graduates
The project, named ‘Graduate Gateway’ is designed to offer comprehensive support to Irish J1 Graduate Visa holders, encompassing all stages of their transition into US employment. This includes assistance with job hunting, networking opportunities, mentorship, and workshops focused on career development in various sectors prevalent in the New York and Tri-State area.

This initiative is a collective effort involving several Irish organizations and advocates in the community, each bringing unique resources and expertise to the table. The organizations include: Emerald Isle Immigration Center; Irish Business Organization of New York; Women with Ambition; Navigating New York; and Digital Irish – all united in their commitment to fostering the success of Irish graduates in the US.

Graduate Gateway is a commitment to the future of Irish professionals. By providing these graduates with the right tools, guidance, and opportunities, this initiative aims to empower them to make significant contributions within their chosen fields, while advancing the proud tradition of Irish excellence on a global stage. In addition, a key aim of Graduate Gateway is to enhance engagement with employers and Irish professionals in New York who can help to identify employment opportunities and foster meaningful connections for new Irish graduates.
About the J1 Graduate Visa Program
The J1 Graduate Visa program is a non-immigrant visa issued by the United States to research scholars, professors, and exchange visitors participating in programs that promote cultural exchange, especially to obtain medical or business training within the US. The J1 visa provides opportunities for participants to gain work experience and travel in the US. The program, which has been in place for Irish graduates since 2008, is a growing and vital pathway for Irish graduates to gain international experience and exposure in their respective fields.
